Mission
To provide the students the opportunity to experience working outside the school with individuals or groups of individuals, and to share with these individuals the Christian values that they have learned at John A. Coleman Catholic High School.

Goals

  • Bring students into contact with individuals they would not encounter in their usual experiences (nursing homes, thrift stores, etc.)
  • Challenge the students to identify the Christian values they use in their services project
  • Assist students in their efforts to reflect on the service experiences and to gain insight for themselves that it is "better to give than to receive"
  • Encourage students to transfer their learning into their normal daily lives
  • Help students will learn and appreciate new levels of responsibility and accountability
  • Help students “bond” with the various individual groups with whom they become involved

Data will be collected by the Guidance Counselor and the Advisors for Community service for each individual student.

Data collected from the service agents in the community will help us realize what services are needed and how our students may best serve those needs.

The Dean of Students will establish and maintain a calendar of service/volunteer opportunities with dates and activities for which students can register.

The form indicates what volunteer service was performed, where and when it was performed and the number of hours performed.

Each homeroom teacher will have a binder with a sheet for each student to record the student’s Cumulative Volunteer Service Hours.

Homeroom teachers will give the VSHR to the Dean of Students who will track the student’s total hours.
